Deborah Laurel

Deborah Spring Laurel is an accomplished workplace learning and performance improvement trainer, management consultant, and curriculum designer with over 50 years of experience in her field. As the President of Laurel and Associates, Ltd., a certified woman-owned small business, she has specialized in enhancing interpersonal dynamics within organizations by developing essential skills for employees, managers, and trainers.

For over four decades, Deborah has designed and delivered hundreds of participatory classroom and virtual training programs tailored to the specific needs of her clients. Her expertise spans multiple industries, including manufacturing, energy, banking, and transportation, where she has developed technical curriculum designs that ensure both practical and effective learning experiences.

Deborah is also the Co-Founder of The Peer Learning Institute, where she has focused on establishing peer learning groups for managers and entrepreneurs. These groups foster collaboration, build teamwork, and create support systems, enabling professionals to share expertise and learn strategies for overcoming workplace challenges.

In her academic contributions, Deborah taught management and supervisory topics for over 30 years at the Executive Management Institute and the Small Business Development Center in the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also taught in adult education programs at Cardinal Stritch University and the Madison Area Technical College. Her dedication to education extended to facilitating the national Trainer Certificate Program for the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD).

Deborah is a Certified Professional Consultant to Management and has over 25 years of experience in human resource management, organizational development, executive coaching, and performance consulting. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has been published frequently in prestigious journals and anthologies, including her chapter “User Friendly Performance Evaluation” in a monograph published by the University of Minnesota and National ASTD.

In addition, Deborah has been a contributing author for The Leadership Challenge Activities Book and 101 More Ways to Make Training Active. She has also authored two Info-Lines: Conducting a Classroom Learning Audit and Jump-Start Your Learning Objectives.

Her contributions to the learning and development field have earned her numerous accolades, including the Wisconsin Governor’s Trailblazer Award in 2014. Deborah continues to share her expertise through her free weekly Laurel Learning Tips newsletter, which has been published since 2004.
